If you are getting this problem can you please try the patch/wait for 2.24.1,
run Chess from a terminal and report in bug 535256 if you see something like:
Invalid response received from glRenderMode(GL_RENDER): coord=(0,),
viewport=array([  0,   0, 526, 512],'i')
