Description Krzysztof Witek 2008-11-11 17:40:06 UTC
How I reproduce the bug in a fresh installation with one empty imap account:

- I create a new folder in 'sent-mail' called 'test' (the name doesn't matter),
- I send a new email. The copy of the new email appears automatically in the 'sent-mail' folder (I configured evolution to put outgoing emails into that folder),
- I move the new sent email to the previously created folder 'test',
- I restart Evolution (some times several restart is needed),
- I open the email in the 'test' folder,
- I come back to the 'sent-mail' and it appears empty.

If I right click on the 'sent-mail' folder then on properties, it indicates me: "Total messages: 1". The message is not visible and all operations (copy & move) to this folder are not possible. I cannot select this folder if I want to copy emails into it for example.
If executed with CAMEL_DEBUG=all I can read:
  uri: imap://chris@myserver.com/INBOX/sent-mail;noselect=yes
I dont see this message for other folders.

This bug is very serious and makes Evolution not usable.

Quick help needed. Thank you.

Moving messages consists of copying the message and marking the original for deletion. I'm guessing you have Evolution configured to hide deleted messages (try unchecking View -> Hide Deleted Messages).

The banner at the top of the folder list show the total number of _visible_ messages. The Folder Properties window shows the total number of messages period, whether marked for deletion or not.

File -> Empty Trash or Folder -> Expunge will permanently remove the messages marked for deletion, either in all folders or the current folder, respectively.

Don't file blockers when they are no blockers.

Additional info:
The only think I found to recover from this problem is to remove these files
courierimapkeywords
courierimapuiddb
courierimaphieracl/

on the imap server side. Of course it only works if you have access to the imap server otherwise there is no way to recover. Removing the evolution account doesn't help at all (I removed completely the unix account and recreate it without noticing a thing).

The invisible files are displayed correctly using kmail, outlook and thunderbird.

I need help. I installed Evolution in a firm and people are using it professionally.
Thank you.

The bug is still not fixed in GNOME 2.32.1 and it appears pretty often there.

I have a "mail/INBOX.Trash" IMAP folder for possible spam. There was several mails, all of them except one were spams and they were moved to drawer "mail/s" (server side spam learning folder). Fourth was just read and kept in place.

After the move purge the folder by Ctrl+E and the fourth mail disappears.

But evolution is aware about this fourth mail - it is counted in the title bar of the folder list and when entering to the folder, it is visible for a fraction of second.

The bug seems to be completely independent on the mail contents and the number of mails, but happens after the mentioned mail manipulation.

Work-arounds:
- Use different mail client to move the remaining mail, the mail then appears again.
- Wait for another mail in the folder. The mail maybe appears in the Evolution again.

How often it happens: About once a week.

Hi Krzysztof, hi Stanislav,
if you have time, could you please check again whether this issue still happens in Evolution 3.8.5 (which has a new IMAP+ backend) and update this report by adding a comment and changing the "Version" field and provide information about your distribution? Thanks a lot.

I did not see this bug for a longer time. I am also using another clients on the same mail account, so it is not probable that I overseen such problem.
