GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 558746
Notification area does not work with multiple X screens
Last modified: 2009-05-31 12:03:46 UTC
Please describe the problem: Note that multiple X screens is NOT Xinerama/Twinview The notification area will only function on one screen, on the second screen you try to enable it and nothing happens. Steps to reproduce: 1. Enable multiple X screens 2. Install any program that uses the notification area, such as Pidgin, Skype, aMSN, Ekiga, etc... 3. Try to run the program on both screens, you will see that the notification area is not functioning Actual results: The notification area doesn't work Expected results: The notification area should work. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: I belive this is caused by gnome-panel starting the notification area on the primary X screen always.
A workaround is to use something like stalonetray and run it on both screens.
I can confirm this. The notification area applet is enabled, but opening an application that normally creates an icon doesn't. It also doesn't show the icon on the first screen's notification panel if opening the app in the second screen.
