GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 557911
Gnumeric should open MSWorks files
Last modified: 2008-10-30 01:08:34 UTC
Please describe the problem: using gnumeric 1.9.1 - try to open an old WKS file (2004) - 1 of 2 things happens - 1-get a little garbage in cell a1 - thats all - 2-same thing but i specify wks type file in advanced - now i also get a box that pops up and says 'error while reading lotus workbook'. Steps to reproduce: 1. see above 2. 3. Actual results: see above Expected results: I would expect the file to open up!!!!!!! your documentation specifically says that gnumeric can handle this situation. Does this happen every time? yes Other information: your step process to get here is too complicated
> Other information: > your step process to get here is too complicated Please explain. This is not a blocker.
Can you provide the wks sample file that can't be opened? (I don't see any potential for data loss here, so the severity should be "normal".)
Please attach a sample file and, if possible, the same file in xls format so we can see what ought to happen.
Note that a wks file as we understand it is a spreadsheet file created by Lotus 1-2-3. Microsoft Works also uses the wks _extension_ (but does not create lotus 1-2-3 files).
Created attachment 121456 [details] a MSWorks spreadsheet file from 2004 ....
Gnumeric does not read MSWorks files. The extension .wks is usually used for Lotus 1-2-3 files. Could you please tell me where our documentation says that it handles MSWorks files?
