Description kmeera99 2008-10-10 04:29:34 UTC
Steps to reproduce:
On my Sony Vaio laptop running Fedora 9, I connected the power cord half way through the bootup. On the Log in screen, I saw this error

"The configuration defaults for Gnome Power Manager have not been installed correctly"

The desktop is totally messed up. On searching the net, this seems to be a WIDESPREAD problem across Linux distros, with NO OFFICIAL SOLUTION from GNOME as yet. Most people facing this problem have had to reformat / reinstall their systems - WHAT A HORROR!

I request you to kindly publish a simple fix for what seems to be a simple corruption of a configuration file.

NO NEED FOR CAPS.

The error is because you have invalid schema for your configuration. To fix this, it should be as easy to do:

rpm -e gnome-power-manager
pkcon install gnome-power-manager

And then restart.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I guess if any of the 10+ problem filings posted on the net had instead been submitted to GNOME bugzilla, they as well as I might have had an easier time of it. In the meantime, I spent the entire day yesterday rebuilding my complete system (before getting your mail).

I did erase and reinstall gnome-power-manager using yum - that did not resolve the issue. Then I removed all the GNOME modules and reinstalled them with yum - that also did not do it. Thats when I resorted to reinstalling the O/S.

Anyway will try pkcon if this happens again.

I guess this is obsolete then...
