Since I couldn't reopen bug #16230 I report this as a new one.

Starting with gnome 1.4.x (I use 1.4.0.4 currently) swallowed
apps in a panel do not get keyboard/mouse focus anymore. For
example if I swallow a xconsole I cannot scroll/clear/search
in the swallowed window. Would someone fix this again, please?
