I enabled the composite on my desktop, but that's not working in gnome-xchat.
Would be great if could enable it.

What exactly do you expect to see when using xchat-gnome with composite enabled?

I guess it's transparency that you want? That's bug 392860 which isn't too easy to fix unfortunately.
