Description rom 2008-09-03 13:43:33 UTC
At work, I use the company proxy in gnome system settings.

But company proxy doesn't allow smtp/imap/pop. So I would like to use my ssh tunnel to do that, without using it globally.

Several softwares gives this option : pidgin, firefox 3 (you can choose system settings OR override it manually), the same in thunderbird 3 alpha 2 :

(3rd and 4th option)

It would be fine if evolution provides this option too, I would be able to use it at work.

Thank you.

Sorry, the screenshot is in french, here is the translation :
3rd radiobutton : Use system proxy settings
4th radiobutton : Configure proxy manually

With 2.23.x version you have Network preferences in Evolution preferences window where you can configure different proxy. Please test it with latest unstable 2.23.91 and let us know if it works for you and then we can close this bug. Thanks in Advance.

In evolution 2.24 (Ubuntu intrepid beta), I have network preferences.

But it doesn't work for a ssh tunnel :

Evolution fails to download the mails through the tunnel, while firefox/thunderbird manage to use it.

With this configuration : http://images.imagup.com/06/1223292574_screenshot2.png
in fact it doesn't use a proxy AT ALL.

Come back to home, I let this configuration, and it managed to download my mails (while I have no proxy on localhost:3128).

In fact, the proxy settings in evolution don't work AT ALL.

I have a proxy configured in gnome settings ; in evolution the radio button "use system settings" is selected, but evolution behaves exactly as if it was "direct connection". I tested with a network sniffer (wireshark), it totally ignores the proxy settings.

I'm marking this as a duplicate of your later bug, it's the same issue, as I understand it.
