Description Steve Fosdick 2008-08-26 09:49:17 UTC
As currently implemented, when rhythmbox has finished playing the files in the queue it carries on playing files from the library. If I have used the queue as a temporary (one off) playlist of tracks I want to listen to this often causes some of those tracks to be played again. I would prefer that playing stopped which would then prompt me to select different tracks to play.

Please consider adding an option to control this, i.e. whether when the queue is empty playing carries on in the library or stops.

I don't think it's a good idea to add an option for this.

Instead, both should be available, with the behaviour you get determined by how you activate the queue. Something like this:

Add to queue while already playing -> continue
Hit play while a non-queue source is selected -> continue
Activate non-queue source -> continue

Hit play while queue source is selected -> stop
Activate queue source -> stop
Activate entry in queue side pane -> stop

Of those, it appears that the first three work as-is, the next two are a bit awkward, and the last doesn't work.

I agree with Steve Fosdick's post above. The current behavior of the queue is both surprising to new users and rather complex (even for older users). Jonathan Matthew's post above should just affirm the complexity of the current behavior.

As Steve suggests, a simple choice whether to (dis)continue playback after the queue has played will solve this problem. At the moment the user has the option, yes, but isn't likely to figure it out in a million years.
