Description Jamie 2008-08-26 01:20:25 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Apparently, no metadata is found for the cd. I say apparently, because even though the artist and album show as "Unknown", if you right click on the audio cd in the left hand window, the context menu correctly shows the name of the cd.. (Import "Stone Crazy!"). Also, I have a wireshark log showing the query banshee makes to musicbrainz, and the query result. Banshee requests the correct cd, and the correct metadata is returned. However, banshee just sits there, with the "Searching for CD metadata" throbber going. Wireshark log and console error message included below.

Steps to reproduce:
Insert my cd. :-)

Tried several other cds. All worked except the one that doesn't. Tried the one that doesn't multiple times, including after trying some that did. Still didn't display the metadata. Sorry. I know these kind of reports are fairly useless if you can't reproduce it. I'd be happy to help the developers collect additional info. Just contact me.

Actual results:
Inserting a particular cd causes the "Unknown Artist" / "Unknown Album" stuff to show up instead of the correct metadata. Other cds work fine.

Expected results:

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Thanks for your report. Definitely not useless, as it seems others are having the trouble too, just a random hard-to-find bug. :)
Can you attach the output of 'banshee-1 --debug'?

Created attachment 117433 [details]
Output of "banshee-1 --debug" (captured using 'script')

Output from banshee-1 --debug. Started banshee, inserted problem cd and started import. Cancelled import partially through track 1 and exited banshee normally.

Same here.

I just ripped about 150 cd's. I'd guess that about 20 of them suffered this problem.

For some reason, a significant number of my Pink Floyd cds seem to suffer from this. Animals, Wish You Were Here, Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, A Saucer Full of Secrets, Obscured by Clouds and Ummagumma. I checked with Sound Juicer, and it is able to get the correct metadata from Musicbrainz.

Here is the TOC and Disk ID for my copy of Animals
