Description Mårten Woxberg 2008-08-16 22:02:33 UTC
Right now the right click menu for the Trash contains 12 menu entries: Open, Browse foler, Cut, Copy, Paste to folder, Create Link, (Change Name), Move to trash, Remove, Create Archive (if file-roller is installed), Stretch Icon, Reset Icon to original size, Properties, Empty Trashcan.

Out of these 12 I feel that at least 8 are unnecessary.
We are then left with: Open, Browse folder, Properties, Empty Trashcan.

The way I see it is like this, the trash can is no ordinary folder so you shouldn't EVER be able to move it to the trash, or delete it. You shouldn't be able to copy or paste into it either because that's not what you do with a trash can. You might want to change name so that one probably should be left alone but you could always change the name in the Properties dialogue.

Stretch and reset could also be kept, I for one like a huge trash on my desktop (easy target). Create archive shouldn't be there, if so it should be a function inside the trash to create a backup of it.

Except that currently changing the name doesn't propagate to other places (i.e. after changing the name of the Trash icon on the Desktop it's still "Places > Trash" in file manager windows and "Move to Trash" on the right click menu for items in the file manager). As it stands that right click menu item could be removed just as well. Not that I am familiar with a valid reason to rename Trash in the first place.

(Couldn't find another "rename Trash" bug. Must have missed something.)

Well, that isn't the big problem here, the big problem is the crowded right click menu.

I'd write a new bug about renaming the trash if I where you.
