Description Parry 2008-08-11 00:17:29 UTC
I have a Sony Ericsson W800i walkman phone. Whenever I plug it into my laptop, Banshee opens up, but does not show the phone's music in any list. It also doesn't show it as a connected device in the left hand side pane.

Have you created an .is_audio_player file? See the relevant entry here: http://live.gnome.org/Rhythmbox/FAQ. Also, does it work anywhere else? Does Nautilus recognize it as a media source?

Yes. Nautilus recognises it as a media source. Before using Banshee I was using Rhythmbox. Whenever I used to plug in my phone, F-Spot photo manager and Rhythmbox used to open by default, showing a listing of my phone's media. Nautilus recognises it as a storagte device, and I can access it without any problems.

No. I haven't. But i never created such a file with Rhythmbox. It used to recognise my phone automatically. I'll do that if you want to, but if you could incorporate this feature in Banshee's next release, it would be good.

Sincerely

Parry

P.S. When is the next release due?

I am sorry we haven't addressed this before now. To get devices to show up in Banshee the first step is for them to have an entry in the media-player-info package. I see your device has an entry now.

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/media-player-info/tree/media-players/sony-ericsson_w800i.mpi

Which I hope is correct, if not then please follow the guidelines here to get them updated:

http://ernstfamily.ch/jonathan/2010/10/help-me-make-your-music-player-or-phone-recognized-as-such-under-linux/

Does your device still not show up in a newer release of Banshee such as 1.8.0?
