Description tom.tdw 2008-08-07 11:16:13 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Whenever you sync music to a iPod nano 3rd generation it will corrupt the database, to the enduser it will appear as if all music has been deleted.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Plugin a 3rd gen iPod nano
2. Add some music to it
3. Eject

Actual results:
It will display 'No music' and you won't able to play any of your music.

Expected results:
The music should be correctly added

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Confirmed in Banshee 1.2, downloaded from http://ppa.launchpad.net/banshee-team/ubuntu repositories. Using Ubuntu 8.04.

No matter what, every time I add music thought Banshee my iPod Nano Video (Green) don't have it's database sync, so the iPod actually shows "No music".

Next time I plug my iPod, all the music I just added is show in Banshee as "Other". I have to use gtkpod to reconstruct the database, and after some hash error, the database is fixed and the iPod recognize the music.

I think the problem is with Banshee writing the iPod Database...

More info:

This bug is happening with the last generation iPods. I don't know if last-gen classic iPod are affected, but Nano Videos are.

I tested with my 2nd Gen iPod Nano Silver (2GB), and with a 1st Gen iPod Shuffle, and those two don't have problem, Banshee generates a valid iTunesDB. So, I assume it has to be something whit the new encryption in iTunesDB in the last-generation iPods...
