Steps to reproduce it:

1- Open a nautilus window
2- Go to Edit -> Backgrounds and Emblems
3- Add a new pattern, select an image of 1024x768 and add it.
4- Select the previous image to be the background of the current folder.
5- Maximize the nautilus window

Results:

the background image become distorted

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version. You may want to check for a software upgrade.
