GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 546215
Messages getting lost
Last modified: 2013-09-13 01:01:34 UTC
I run Evolution trunk on my testing box now and I noticed something strange about it recently: sometimes, folders show some unread messages even if there are no unread messages inside. Now, I noticed what seems to happen: I opened a folder and after a second or so one of the messages (the 3. one) just disappeared, as if I deleted it (I did not touch it). It's not in the trash folder however. I tried "mark all as read" but that does not work as well. If I however restart evo, all folders show 0 unread mails. Have a look at the screenshot and compare to the planet (the folder is evolution-rss displaying planetgnome content - it seems to be happening for non rss folders too though).

We have fixed a lot for 2.23.6 today. Please try and let me know. It has to do with disk summary, if it happens.
But this should be fixed IMO.
seen this in NNTP folders for ages, don't know if it could be related.
I don't think it's related to any problem that has been there for ages. Srinivasa: it may really be fixed already. My last build was from ~16h ago, now running a new trunk build for about an hour and I have not yet seen the problem. I'll keep testing and close this if I don't encounter the problem for a day.
Update: I just encountered the problem again. The "glib" folder shows one unread mail but the list does not show it. Doing "svn log" tells me there should be one entry about the changes in r7292 but that one is missing.
...and it just happend again for "real mail" e.g. mail received over pop3.
Im testing with pop3 and will get back...
Hmm, I might be missing some steps, Im not able to get it... :( Michael, any pointers or any steps?
I don't think I'm doing anything special, just fetching mail and sometimes it happens that a folder displays new mail (or feed items) which I can't actually see. I have not seen the problem again after 2008-08-04 13:52 UTC (since I have not done any new build btw). My only guess is that it only happens if there are a lot new mails in different folders? At least I have a feeling this only seems to happen in such a case (like having 10+ folders with 5+ new mails each).
This seems to be the most serious out of everything. But Im not able to progress much here :(
This may very well be this same issue: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=543389#c17 For me, restarting evo did not fix the index, but perhaps evo trunk would? Anyway, I have not seen such a corruption for some days so maybe this bug is no longer valid.
Michael, I have fixed lots of counts, issues and Im confident, normal folder(except Exchange) everything should be fine. Im closing the bug. Please reopen, when you see it
