GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 541129
some gnome program-windows reappear in front of all other windows unexpectedly
Last modified: 2008-07-01 20:30:09 UTC
Please describe the problem: Some programs, like gnome-terminal, only if it's window is left in full screen, suddenly reappears in front of all other windows and grabs focus. This is very annoying. Steps to reproduce: 1.) start a gnome-terminal 2.) put it to full screen by pressing the appropriate hot key (not just maximized without decoration, it must be in normal full screen) 3.) do no minimize it, but start OpenOffice.Org Spreadsheet (Calc) (by hitting a hotkey for the app itself, or just switch to some other, non-fullscreen app with Alt+Tab to access your menu) 4.) click on the button with an arrow on it for displaying a color picker widget for selecting "Font Color" Actual results: 5.) the full screen gnome-terminal window should appaer on top of any other window/widget 6.) if you switch back to the window of openoffice (e.g. Alt+Tab), the color picker widget will be there where it should and is fully functional Expected results: 5 should not happen at all. Why does the terminal window appear? Why I have to swtich back to the app I was working with? Does this happen every time? Yes. Always. gnome-terminal & ooo is not the only program it works with, but in this combination it is deterministic for me. I have had this issue running Debian and now Ubuntu. It must be some program/library that is not installed in the first place, as it does not affect a system newly installed. Unluckily it is not reproducible for everyone: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/192028 Other information: My workaround was to use devilspie instead to automatically maximize the terminal window with removed window decoration.
Moving to the right component.
