Description Cristian Aravena Romero 2008-06-22 22:09:21 UTC
gstreamer is very important proyect, many aplications of Gnome & KDE use. Package "gst-plugins-base" have work of subtitle.

See:
gst-plugins-base-0.10.20\gst\subparse\gstsubparse.c

"
  switch (format) {
    case GST_SUB_PARSE_FORMAT_MDVDSUB:
      GST_DEBUG ("MicroDVD format detected");
      caps = SUB_CAPS;
      break;
    case GST_SUB_PARSE_FORMAT_SUBRIP:
      GST_DEBUG ("SubRip format detected");
      caps = SUB_CAPS;
      break;
    case GST_SUB_PARSE_FORMAT_MPSUB:
      GST_DEBUG ("MPSub format detected");
      caps = SUB_CAPS;
      break;
    case GST_SUB_PARSE_FORMAT_SAMI:
      GST_DEBUG ("SAMI (time-based) format detected");
      caps = SAMI_CAPS;
      break;
    case GST_SUB_PARSE_FORMAT_TMPLAYER:
      GST_DEBUG ("TMPlayer (time based) format detected");
      caps = TMP_CAPS;
      break;
      /* FIXME: our MPL2 typefinding is not really good enough to warrant
       * returning a high probability (however, since we registered our
       * typefinder here with a rank of MARGINAL we should pretty much only
       * be called if most other typefinders have already run */
    case GST_SUB_PARSE_FORMAT_MPL2:
      GST_DEBUG ("MPL2 (time based) format detected");
      caps = MPL2_CAPS;
      break;
    case GST_SUB_PARSE_FORMAT_SUBVIEWER:
      GST_DEBUG ("SubViewer format detected");
      caps = SUB_CAPS;
      break;
    default:
    case GST_SUB_PARSE_FORMAT_UNKNOWN:
      GST_DEBUG ("no subtitle format detected");
      return;

Hi,

That's an interesting idea, for sure. Still, some questions:
1) What do you mean with migrating, exactly? Can gst-plugins use the mono-based SubLib library?
2) Shouldn't a bug be opened in gstreamer?

1.1) == Subtitle with gst-plugins-base is real ==
gst-plugins-base work with subtitles, example: open totem-gstreamer and attach subtitle .srt and see film with subtitle =).(totem-gstreamer use only gstreamer, see [0]dependencies)
[0] http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/gnome/totem-gstreamer

1.2) == gst is platform default for multimedios ==
Is used in banshee, rhythmbox, totem. etc. (Program important for GNOME)

1.3) == SubLib good work support many format of subtitles, gst-plugins-base (section subtitle) lack work to be done ==
Example: gst-plugins-base 0.10.20 work with subtitle format:
* MicroDVD
* SubRip
* MPSub
* SAMI
* TMPlayer
* MPL2
* SubViewer
ask other format of subtitles: See bug 481075

SubLib 0.9 work with Subtitle format:
* Adobe Encore DVD
* Advanced Sub Station Alpha
* AQ Title
* DKS Subtitle Format
* Karaoke Lyrics LRC
* Karaoke Lyrics VKT
* MacSUB
* MicroDVD
* MPlayer
* MPlayer 2
* MPSub
* Panimator
* Phoenix Japanimation Society
* Power DivX
* Sofni
* SubCreator 1.x
* SubRip
* Sub Station Alpha
* SubViewer 1.0
* SubViewer 2.0
* ViPlay Subtitle File

It is necessary to move the work to sublib gst. I want gnome-subtitle for a long time =)

Now [0]problem with package SubLib =(

I do not understand
Comment 3 Pedro Castro 2008-06-23 22:52:55 UTC
Cristian,

Sorry but you didn't really answer my 1st question. I was asking what, pratically, you mean with "migrating". Whether the SubLib library can be executed from gst-plugins-base, or its code has to be ported to C, for instance. Are you familiar with these terms?

About the second question, I was asking if a bug should be opened in the GStreamer bugzilla.
Comment 4 Pedro Castro 2008-06-23 22:55:07 UTC
It looks like my questions are answered in bug #481075. Marking it as a dependency.

Ok.
* SubLib very cool for subtitles ; ), SubLib write in C# (for Mono).
* Gstreamer-base very cool para Gnome, Kde, OpenMono(?), etc. =). gstreamer is very big proyect. Many, many, many work for sound, video, and others. gstreamer not very good for subtitles :(.

is posible rewrite SubLib of C#(mono) to C(GNU gcc compiler)?

Oummm... admin of subtitle is task of "gstreamer". Change in gstreamer is very good for many many many proyects of open source =)
Comment 7 Pedro Castro 2008-12-30 14:42:02 UTC
Closing this bug, as the GStreamer devs haven't decided for this solution.
