Description David Price 2008-06-03 16:44:24 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When typing in a form in Firefox or writing a message in Thunderbird, characters are echoed when character echo has been disabled. Word echo is enabled.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a new message to write in Thunderbird.
2. Type and listen to character echo.
3. In Firefox, add a comment to this bug.
4. When in the text area for additional comments, type and listen to character echo.

Actual results:
Characters are echoed while typing words. The character echo lags behind, so that words are spoken in the middle of the character stream. For instance, if the word "application is typed, the user hears "a p p l i c application a t i o n".

Expected results:
Only words are echoed.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
Using latest nightly builds of Firefox and Thunderbird and this problem has persisted for a long time, if not through entire use of these applications. Others on list are using packaged version through debian. One person reports same problem in Location field within Firefox--I'm not sure that problem isn't related to autocompletion.

We'll try to get to this for GNOME 2.24.0. Thanks for reporting this bug!

David:

Can you give us a debug.out and also more exact steps, such as where you are entering the text?

Thanks!

Hi,

This problem seems to have resolved itself. I am no longer seeing this behavior. I am using Orca svn trunk rev 3993 and latest nightly of both Firefox and Thunderbird. Thanks.

Thanks for following up, David! I'm going to close this as NOTABUG. If this problem re-emerges, however, please take a look at the cpu usage of the machine. My suspicion is that this behavior might occur under very heavy load.
