GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 535634
Nautilus "Open With" settings not integrated with xdg-open/gnome-open/Thunar
Last modified: 2008-05-30 10:34:39 UTC
Please describe the problem: A few releases ago, AFAIR, changing the default application used to open a file type results in gnome-open / xdg-open picking up the change. Now, however, if I change the default application for, say, AVI files to VLC, xdg-open / gnome-open / Thunar still opens the file using Totem. Changing the association in Thunar, on the other hand, does the right thing: xdg-open and gnome-open opens the file in VLC. Nautilus appears unaffected by the change. Steps to reproduce: 1. In Nautilus, open a file's Properties->Open With dialog and change the default app 2. In Thunar, change the same file's default app to something else 3. xdg-open the file in a terminal Actual results: The Thunar setting is respected by xdg-open, the Nautilus setting does not interact at all with all the other applications Expected results: All applications should be modifying the same MIME settings Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
Occurs on both Fedora 9 and Ubuntu 8.04 (both using GNOME 2.22). If memory serves, occurs on Fedora 8 (GNOME 2.20) as well
This is a 2.22 only regression AFAIK and it happens because gnome-open has not been ported to GIO yet. Closing as a duplicate of bug 530752. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 530752 ***
