We have this in openSUSE https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=410695 and the user can only reproduce when not using UTF-8.

blah. we had the fix for this before 2.24.0 went out but I didn't realize it was actually causing crashes in gweather-applet.

fixed in libgweather 2.24.1
