GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 535232
autohide on a panel just moves it off the screen
Last modified: 2009-06-18 08:02:50 UTC
If you autohide a panel, it doesn't really shrink it, it just slides it downwards so that it is off the bottom of the screen. This means that if you have dual monitors in a one-above-the-other configuration, and the screen at the top has the panels, then the 'hidden' panel is visible at the top of the bottom screen. If the panel was actually hidden, rather than moved, it would work better. Other information:
See launchpad bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/150857 for more a little more info. This occurs with compiz and metacity.
Still a problem. not only with auto-hide but also when using the hiding-buttons on the side of a panel (if activated). If you have a dual-screen setup the panel just slides on the other screen, when you slide a panel of a smaller screen in direction of the bigger it can slide in the middle of the screen.
