Description Sense Hofstede 2008-05-04 09:14:08 UTC
As reported by Elia Vecellio in LP #226368:
"Sometimes a music file (MP3, OGG, etc) will have incorrect or missing song information (ie artist, album, track). At the moment Rhythmbox will only search on the song information, so it often cannot find a track even though the filename of that song will contain the searched keyword.

Rhythmbox should also search the filename for keywords. Additionally, it should be possible to customize the column headings in the Library. For instance, so that, if we want, we can see the Filename, File Format (MP3, OGG etc) etc. Then it would be possible to sort and search on these extra information."

I guess it's a lot of work to implement this, but I thought it would be the best if I'd forward it to here.

I'm using Rhythmbox 0.12.7 on Ubuntu Karmic, and I'm really missing this feature. This feature could be very useful, even if all your music files do have the correct song information.

I for instance, mainly listen to Asian music which includes Japanese, Korean and Chinese. So most of my music files contain song information with Chinese/Korean/Japanese characters in Unicode format. So searching for a song is very cumbersome, because I would have to somehow remember and type in the Unicode characters (which I can't and won't). To get around this, I simply named all my files with the romanization of the corresponding song and artist. For instance, if I have a music file with the following information:
Artist: 이수영
Song: 라라라
I would name this file: "Lee Soo Young - LaLaLa.ogg"

If the feature for searching file names was implemented, I could just search for "LaLaLa" or "Lee Soo Young" (which is much easier to remember and type!).
