Description Marius M. M. 2008-05-04 08:10:23 UTC
It would be nice if Hamster would provide the abillity to let the user configure SAP category/project/transaction-IDs and and these to each tracked tasks. I personally need to record my times at work in SAP and for this Hamster would be a great and helpful addition. Unfortunatelly the only thing that makes Hamster yet useful for me is the fact that I can track each activity so that I won't forget what I actually did. Still, I need to manually track the times at the end of the month in SAP, because there I need to provide the missing IDs.
It shouldn't actually be too hard to let the user configure these tree types of IDs and make use of them on each time track. I don't know if you're familiar with SAP's Time Tracking interface, but of course I could add a screenshot if you'd like.

It could be nice if you describe a bit more what you need and how. And the screenshots would be very useful I think.

I use Hamster for tracking time activities at work and I miss a CSV export (actually I'm working on that currently) for Hamster, but I don't know if you need the same exportation or format.

Anything you can explain about will help us :-)
Thanks

SAP Time Tracking
Comment 4 Marius M. M. 2008-09-05 12:23:09 UTC
Hi,

sorry for the long delay. Here's a Screenshot of what I mean + Explaination:

The first column (FR ...) is ment for inserting the time. The time is being written as 2,5 for 2:30 h or 2,75 for 2:45 h.
The next one ("Kurztext") is a small description of the action one was doing. The column "LstArt" describes the type of effort (it could be an uncalculabe effort, or a calculabe for example). The next column ("Netzplan") is being used for defining the Project ID. By that, the column of course influences the next one called "Vorgang". That one is the work package within the specific project. So, depending on what project ID you enter, you get different work packages you can use on that.
Actually these are the main features I would like to see implemented into hamster. By that, it could become a really useful tool in everyday-business-life. Because then, an export (CSV) feature could be built in, so that the user could just import the trackings he did using hamster at the end of the month into the SAP.

I think a general csv/xml export facility is in order, nothing that caters to some odd proprietary system like this SAP that you use. People can then write a simple script to convert the exported data to the format needed by their individual proprietary systems.
Comment 6 Marius M. M. 2008-12-27 02:19:29 UTC
Sure, you can do that (csv/xml export), too. Unfortunately it won't be pretty useful, since every time-tracking software needs different parameters and information. Depending of what software you would like to import your CSV/XML into, you'd have missing info, like for example the fields I described for the SAP system. While this wants me to enter a numeric "type of effort" and a "project id", some other software might need an "working-package id", a "customer id" or whatever else. Regarding this fact, it must be implemented a way to define own columns for the time-tracking with hamster, which can be filled with such data and get exported into the CSV/XML.

yes, export would be in order. extra fields could be derived category+activity
