From http://news.bbc.co.uk/ click on one minute world-news button at the top This is what I get but I am not sure if it's a permalink http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/nol/newsid_6900000/newsid_6903100?redirect=6903113.stm&news=1&bbram=1&nbwm=1&nbram=1&bbwm=1&asb=1
it is the http://xxxxxxx.wmv style playlist item that seems to hang. swf and gifs are skipped and mms:// ones played. But the http - wmv one comes before the main mms in the playlist. Making totem-plugin-viewer skip that kind of URI allows the rest to play but that is a workaround not a proper fix.
Looks like Pitfdll chokes on the files. It gets to the MMS streams, and doesn't play it back. A similar URL works fine here, although I don't get the adverts as I'm in Britain and my TV license covers those... Try without gst-pitfdll installed.
It's the same problem I have in bug 531571, I don't have gst-pitfdll installed.
