GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 529269
formats (colors) not sorted when a column is sorted by value
Last modified: 2008-04-21 22:33:01 UTC
When sorting a column where cells have different foreground/background format colors (e.g. as a cue of the significance of a cell's value), the ordering of the colors is not altered, resulting in an inconsistent color-to-value association in the sorted contents.
This depends on the selection of the "preserve format" check box in the sort dialog (or for the button in the toolbar) in the preference dialog. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 303408 ***
Is it possible to have this "preserve format" as the default, just like in Excel?
I don't know whether "just like in Excel", but you can set up the default in the tools->sorting tab of the preference dialog.
I've done what you said and it works fine, thank you. I use MS Excel at the Office and Gnumeric (Ubuntu) at home. I was confused by the different default sorting behaviour, which I mistook for a bug. It would be so nice if Gnumeric had this option "off" by default, as it would help potential new users do the transition more smoothly without these little confusions. Anyway, Gnumeric is doing an excellent job at maintaining compatibility with Excel , which was one of the arguments that helped me take the final leap towards GNU-Linux.
