GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 529014
Seeking does not work with .mpg movie
Last modified: 2008-09-03 18:22:24 UTC
Please describe the problem: I have got a .mpg movie in which seeking does not really work. Also, the total time jumps around. Sometimes it's 59:00, then its 1:30 etc. Steps to reproduce: 1. Play my .mpg video 2. 3. Actual results: Seeking does not really work, total time jumps around. Expected results: Seeking should work, correct total time should be displayed. Does this happen every time? Yes. I'd like to know which information you need like an analysis of the video file. Other information: # rpm -qa | grep gstreamer gstreamer-python-0.10.11-2.fc9.i386 gstreamer-ffmpeg-0.10.3-4.lvn9.i386 gstreamer-plugins-bad-0.10.6-3.lvn9.i386 gstreamer-devel-0.10.19-1.fc9.i386 gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.7-1.lvn9.i386 gstreamer-tools-0.10.19-1.fc9.i386 totem-gstreamer-2.23.1-1.fc9.i386 gstreamer-0.10.19-1.fc9.i386 gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10.19-1.fc9.i386 gstreamer-plugins-pulse-0.9.5-0.5.svn20070924.fc9.i386 gstreamer-plugins-bad-extras-0.10.6-3.lvn9.i386 gstreamer-plugins-good-0.10.7-1.fc9.i386
If it helps: Input #0, mpeg, from 'Butterfly Effect.mpg': Duration: 01:46:21.3, start: 1.142133, bitrate: 1011 kb/s Stream #0.0[0x1e0]: Video: mpeg1video, yuv420p, 352x288 [PAR 178:163 DAR 1958:1467], 870 kb/s, 25.00 tb(r) Stream #0.1[0x1c0]: Audio: mp2, 44100 Hz, stereo, 128 kb/s
The "Duration: 01:46:21.3" does not seem to be correct, when I play it using Xine it plays to 1:44:57. But that should certainly not dislocate GST.
Seeking works with the movie now, but: In Totem, there are two counters. One shows the current position in the movie and the second how long the movie is. The first showing the current position shows it correctly, but it changes from the current position to 00:00 every ~ 2 seconds. The second counter which shows the overall duration changes its value all the time between 1:46:00 and 1:47:30 I'll attach a screencast :)

I'm sure there is another bug about that behaviour somewhere... and I commented on it :) I can't find it now unfortunately...
Sebastian, can you have another look? I'd be keen to know what the comment was like :)
