Simple emulation of HTTP for local files (file: URI scheme) would be very useful for WebKit and similar libraries and applications which are intended primarily for web browsing but need basic local file access.

Could you advise us as to whether this feature is suitable for libsoup or if we should work to implement this in WebKit's soup backend instead, since it's blocking a few bugs?
