Description David Zeuthen (not reading bugmail) 2008-04-09 15:18:28 UTC
The uri scheme of the cdda:// backend conflicts with a gstreamer plug-in that uses the same URI scheme (I wonder how many other problems we'll get from sharing the namespace). One implication is that sound previews via totem-audio-preview (which I believe is the default) when browsing an audio cd won't work.

I suggest we rename the URI scheme for the gvfs cdda backend to cdaudio:// or something else (ideas welcome). It would be a small patch against the hal volume monitor and the backend itself. We can keep this to HEAD but it would make sense even for the 2.22 branch. Thoughts? Thanks.

Just for the record see bug 526794 for the gory details.

cddafs? Note that it would also break: totem-disc in totem-pl-parser, and device activation in Rhythmbox. I'm not even sure it currently works with sound-juicer.

That's a better name.

Yeah, so clearly 2.22 is out of the question. Would you be OK with changing it for HEAD / 2.24 only?

Certainly. We'd need to fix totem-pl-parser, sound-juicer, and any other application that could be started from the cluebar in nautilus for Audio CDs.

Is this still on the agenda for 2.24 ?
If so, we probably need to see some quick action on getting this in and fixing up the dependencies.

Actually, renaming it doesn't buy us much of anything. I'd leave it at that...
