Other information:
This is a very picky observation but when it comes to finances and computers picky is probably ok.

The text is correct for me in Gnucash 2.2.3. Text of Help | About reads:

The GnuCash personal finance manager. The GNU way to manage your money!  This copy was built from r16843 on 2008-01-08.

(Note the complete word "was")

Can you try a later version of Gnucash and confirm if fixed?

I have created bug 530255 and will close this one as duplicate of it, because I think once the test case attached there works, GnuCash's about dialog will look better as well.
