Description antistress 2008-04-03 00:57:06 UTC
1°) right click on a picture file (=its preview) within Nautilus : you get the MIME choice to open it with GIMP, EoG...
2°) right click on the picture that is displayed within EoG : you get the MIME choice to open it with GIMP, EoG...
Very powerful functionality.

Maybe gnome-screenshot should have that functionnality : right clicking on the preview would allow the user to open the screenshot directly in EoG/GIMP...

Indeed, when i take a screenshot of my desktop i always open it in GIMP to crop a selected area etc. Therefore it would make sens to be able to open the screenshot directly in an editor program

BUT that option should not lead the user to forget to save the current image.

So, what is your opinion ?

It is indeed a good idea, however I think it's unnecessary to add this feature because the program should be kept as simple as possible. That is probably the main difference between GNOME and KDE, in which KDE provides too many features on a program that confuse the user and totally break a neat and sane GUI HIG.

i understand the concept behind GNOME but i don't see how this kind of entry in contextual menu could lead to confuse the user...

besides, this could add coherence to the desktop (right clicking a picture whatever the application is used could allow the user to open it in another program)
