GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 525288
Revamp "File System" tab - new usability style
Last modified: 2018-05-22 12:03:55 UTC
I find the graph list style of Baobab very cool and could be an good idea if we can integrate it for File System tab. Simply imagine a pie chart on which every partitions are listed with labels on the total volume use. Then from each partition graphic part extends another part shows the used spaces and free space. Each pieces of the pie chart has distinct color representing for the file system type (ext2, swap, etc). Ofcourse there will be mechanism in which you can change the color of pieces just like the Resources tab. How does that sound to you guys? Let me know soon okay? Other information:
Sounds interesting and complementary with the current list (the list of progress bar makes it easy to sort). We need to have a look at baobab code and see how we can share it.
Nautilus also use the similar pie chart for viewing file usage of a HDD. I think it might be useful for you. I think we should keep 2 view types for File System, Progress Bar type and Pie Chart type. For the Progress bar, I think we could improve it more. Have you seen the iTune synchronization status progress bar on the content of iPod? If you do, you will see that on the same progress bar, it splits into many parts, for example red color for Music, blue color for Files, green for free space. I think we could apply that concept to our program for showing mounted partition based on the order of HDD that the partitions reside on. This concept is also used on the Bittorrent app named Transmission's torrent bar.
