GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 524720
Support dynamic headers for individual data ranges in Calc
Last modified: 2018-02-08 12:57:41 UTC
Sometimes a single spreadsheet has multiple data ranges present, essentially functioning as independent tables (See attached). In such an instance, the dynamic row and/or column headers that apply to the first range might not apply to the second. It would be handy if we could support dynamic row and column headers on a per-range basis. Looking at what we get out of Calc, I don't see anything that tells us the range for a given cell. Calc seems to have some idea (you can use navigator and its toolbar buttons to select the range for the current cell) and maybe it would be nifty if it shared that info. :-) But failing that, perhaps we could provide the user a way to define a range, say by selecting the cells first and pressing some magical Orca command. Having defined a range, I would think/hope it wouldn't be much more work for us to implement the range-specific dynamic headers.

Since I'll be looking at dynamic headers and the like as part of bug 574720, I'm assigning this to myself. Retargeting for 2.27.5 both to get it on my bugzilla radar and also because the defining of ranges will require new strings. Pending evaluation, I may bump it back down to FUTURE.
We are late in the 2.28 release cycle and I want to focus on "high impact"/"low risk" items that also fall within the release team's restrictions in place. Regretfully, this bug doesn't fit well within those constraints and we'll review it for the 2.29 release cycle.
Planning spam. Sorry!
I might be interested in doing this if it shares any similarity with that other bug to store document specific settings and dynamic headers. I even wonder if these row and column headers work across different sheets; I never tried them on different sheets yet. Guess I would really need to learn how the dynamic header stuff works. But if you want this back, I can waive this one.
