Description Joanmarie Diggs (IRC: joanie) 2008-03-20 23:47:03 UTC
OOo Writer, Calc, and Impress documents can contain charts and graphs. Right now, Orca does not provide the user with compelling access to that content. Currently Orca cannot do so because charts/graphs are exposed to us as a single object of ROLE_UNKNOWN.

We'll need to approach the OOo guys and request the details/information we want for such objects. I have already emailed Malte to see if he thought exposing this information was doable. Seems he does (yea!). The question is, how do we want this information exposed to us?

I was chatting with Will via IM about this. He suggested we open a bug here to start with to discuss ideas/capture thinking. Then we can go to the OOo guys with a proposal.

"pretty printed" content.xml from the chart in the Writer doc

Hopefully this will look right....

Will's observations (my words) from our chat:

There's a hierarchy in the XML: A chart and a table. If instead of exposing a single object, OOo were to give us this hierarchy, we might have what we need. The table portion looks like it maps nicely to accessible tables. Not sure what to do about the chart yet.

Will, if I missed anything or didn't state it right, my apologies.

Will needs to discuss with OOo about alternatives for exposing this.

Planning spam. Sorry!
