GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 520551
user names in smb://user@server don't work any longer
Last modified: 2018-09-21 16:19:06 UTC
Please describe the problem: Before gio it was possible to bookmark smb://user@server what was used to list the shares. Now this no longer works. With this the home share (and other user restricted shares) is no longer visible Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Nautlus 2. enter smb://user@server or 1. save bookmark in the above form 2. username gets lost Actual results: username is ignored and not used/stored Expected results: login using the passed name (and optionaly passed password) Does this happen every time? yes Other information:
The username is "lost" because it's not needed. Once the share is mounted, it's not needed anymore. You should get a prompt for a password, and be able to save all the credentials.
Bastien: This is about browsing shares, not mounting a share. We don't auth for browsing atm, so the username may be needed to list the homedir.
My mistake.
I think my report is co-related to bug #524485 and may be solved by the ubuntu patch referenced. What is the chance to get this fixed soon, as using my home share on the samba server is NOT possible at this time.

I can confirm the bug with gnome 2.22.3 on Ubuntu 8.04. I enter smb://remote_user@server on Nautilus. A dialog pops-up to query my password. The user name on the dialog is the local one and not the one specified.

I seem to get proper credentials prompt having the username specified.
I think I can reproduce this issue. fm@thinkpad:~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch) Release: 14.04 gvfs-backends 1.19.90-1ubuntu1 gvfs:amd64 1.19.90-1ubuntu1 nautilus 3.10.1-0ubuntu8 1. open seahore and delete the crendentials of the smb share you want to access 2. enter smb://admin@smbserver/ into nautilus address bar 3. The available shares on smbserver appear 4. click on one of the shares 5. The authentication dialog does not use the username specified in step 2, but uses my local Linux user account instead I cannot clear NEEDINFO on this bug.
