Hi, sorry you never got a reply to this bug report.

The problem was most likely a known issue (bug alias gconf-state-change) with gconfaudiosink which has been fixed quite some time ago.

It should definitely be fixed in the latest Ubuntu version (9.10), so I would recommend you upgrade, if you haven't done that already anyway.
