Description Sven Anders 2008-03-03 09:11:55 UTC
I recognized, that if you have many patterns, brushes, fonts, etc...
you will need some more possibilities to organize them:

Here are some ideas:

- In the Preferences:
Make it possible to disable certain directories, so that they
  are not used.

- In the selection window(s) for brushes, patterns, etc...:
Show Tab for each directory, so you have a sort of 'collections'.
This will speedup finding a certain one extremly.
If you add a new one, it will be added to the underlying directory,
  if writable.

You can go even further, if you let the users create 'profiles', which
will activate only certain directories (i.e. data).
For instance:
You could have an profile for 'Web-Sites', which all needed patterns,
gradients, brushed and fonts you'll need.
Another profile could be 'Anniversaries', which will have other pattern
and brushes (in High-Resolution, because we want to print) and better or
  more fonts enabled.

- For Scripts:
Make it possible to add an example image, which will be shown in the
  Script's perference/data value window.
I collected some scripts from the internet, but I did not really know
  what each script will do.

We have already discussed several approaches for this on the gimp-developer mailing-list and the plan is to introduce tags to categorize the data files.
