I just found this in vfs.debug

...
vfs_getattr: /.Trash
vfs_getattr: -> No such file or directory
vfs_getattr: /.Trash-1000
vfs_getattr: -> No such file or directory
...

I wonder if gvfs is trying to access the old Trash location here?

No. "$mountpoint/.Trash" is the name for the mount specific trash dirs in the new trash spec.

This should be closed as a dup of bug #525779.  This one was filed earlier but that one has more detail including a pointer to an Ubuntu Launchpad bug as well.
