Description Bastien Nocera 2008-02-29 03:42:58 UTC
There should be an area available for testing joypads and joysticks. The full list should be available via HAL (or are they configured in X directly when the X server uses HAL?)

This would be better provided by games themselves, or through a game center configuration utility.

Gnome control center manages all hardware. From there the user configures screens, mouse, keyboard, printers, can see the system hardware, etc. Since joypads are no other thing that pieces of hardware, why don't they fit in there?

And when I have 10 games installed I need to recalibrate my joypad 10 times?

It's not rocket science, we merely need a frontend for the Linuy Console tools:

Another alternative would be to include this in the control center if it is structured around devices (see https://live.gnome.org/Design/Apps/Settings/#Tentative_Design ).

A game center UI might still be a better option though.

Thanks to this comment I found out [1] and really looks a great project. Configuring the gamepad from there could be nice, because it could add helpers to mapping it to several emulated gamepads. However, the user may doubt if the gamepad is being configured for all the system or just for the games launched by that app.

As a user, IMHO I would expect to configure the gamepad globally from the control center, and maybe a link to that from the Games app. However, it's just an opinion.

Thanks for your great job, anyway.
