GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 518725
Can't make side pane smaller
Last modified: 2008-03-01 16:16:46 UTC
I resized the side pane to see whole text in PDF table of contents, and now I can't make it back smaller. It stays there at two thirds of the screen width no matter what I do. I can start evince without any documents open and resize the side pane; but then I open that same PDF file, it restores that huge pane size!

I get this problem with the index which is a GtkTreeView, so it's not a dup of that bug about iconview.
IconView is still packed in notebook and affects sizing
The problem is the scrolled window and both the icon view and the tree view are inside a scrolled window. Thanks for the bug report. Created attachment 106315 [details] [review] trivial patch
I'm sorry for being stubborn, and I promise not to reopen this bug if you close it as a DUP again. But the gtk bug may or may not be fixed in next ten years, and the *evince* bug can be trivially fixed, see the attached patch. I don't think this patch is some great piece of code, but it makes it possible to resize sidebar without having to edit that xml file with settings. So I can resize the sidebar without fear!
A workaround for this was committed some time ago: http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/evince?view=revision&revision=2593 What evince version are you using? 0.8.x?
About box says "Evince Document Viewer 2.20.2", and configure.ac says "2.21.91", it's a debian package. And apparently it's fixed everywhere: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=429687&archived=False&mbox=no
