Description Lionel Dricot 2008-02-25 11:39:17 UTC
Nautilus shouldn't create a .nautilus folder.

According to fd.o specification, it should put user preferences in
$XDG_CONFIG_HOME.

Any user date should go to $XDG_DATA_HOME (I don't think it affects Nautilus).

Any cached stuffs should go to $XDG_CACHE_HOME

Comment 1 Martin Meyer 2008-02-25 14:25:57 UTC
Can we also get a link or brief description about what nautilus's session data is used for please?
Comment 2 Martin Meyer 2008-03-18 12:49:43 UTC
Does Nautilus handle thumbnailing itself or is there another program responsible for that? The ~/.thumbnails directory probably needs to be migrated to $XDG_CACHE_HOME/thumbnails. If that's not Nautilus's responsibility then I'll file another bug for it :-)
Comment 3 Cosimo Cecchi 2008-03-18 13:04:49 UTC
The thumbnails are created by libgnomeui.

Confirming, let's try to do this for 2.24.
Comment 6 André Klapper 2008-08-11 15:30:44 UTC
Is this still planned for 2.24? Does migration code exist? What happens if a user runs 2.24 and then switches back to 2.22, will he lose his settings? I'd prefer to reflect on this and have this for 2.26 instead.

Comment 7 antistress 2009-02-22 15:57:51 UTC
with GNOME pre2.26 i still have a .nautilus folder (with a metafiles folder inside) in my home folder

any plan to solve this bug to comply the freedeskltop spec and clean up the home folder ?

brasero, gtk-2.0 (gtkfilechooser.ini) totem trash etc. have already made the move
Comment 8 Cosimo Cecchi 2009-02-22 19:01:41 UTC
This will need to be done for 2.28.
Comment 9 Jean-François Fortin Tam 2010-05-03 18:37:17 UTC
Just adding that there is not only ~/.nautilus, but also ~/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts and ~/.gnome2/accels/nautilus which need to be axed.
Comment 10 Cosimo Cecchi 2010-05-06 10:57:04 UTC
This has already been done in bug #601476.
