Description Joanmarie Diggs (IRC: joanie) 2008-02-14 03:04:09 UTC
There are certain pages in which the designer considered the following for a given entry:

1. Use a proper label

2. Position some text just before the entry to serve as the
   label

3. Put some text in the entry and delete it just before the
   entry gains focus.

We handle 1 and 2 quite nicely as a general rule. The 3rd approach is a bit harder: We get a text deleted event for an object that doesn't have focus and we won't know until that object has focus that that object is going to get focus and by that time the text is gone so we don't guess it.... Page designers shouldn't do this. But if we're clever we can incorporate this scenario into label guess.

Targeting this as FUTURE because, fortunately, it doesn't seem to crop up all *that* often. And the solution is going to be a hack.

(Oh, before I forget: Examples are at t-mobile and schwabb)

Since I opened this RFE, this disappearing text has become supported as "placeholder" text which is exposed to us as an accessible attribute for the object. Because Orca supports placeholder text which is properly exposed to us via the toolkit, this RFE is now OBSOLETE.
