I think it would be great if it was possible to let other programs load
images into a currently runnung gimp session.

ie (%f is for file & 0 the gimp session)

 
# gimp %f :0

or using the * meaning any gimp session

# gimp %f :*

Although it is formulated a bit differently, the same proposal is
