GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 514580
Network Manager rewrites /etc/hosts
Last modified: 2010-10-14 23:44:00 UTC
Please describe the problem: Network Manager rewrites /etc/hosts without the name of your pc, so that you'll experience a lower response in doing everything... Steps to reproduce: 1. just changing network some times (I found this problme on yhe current gutsy NM version and in "lots" of pcs) Actual results: /etc/hosts is rewritten without the name of my pc Expected results: /etc/hosts unchanged Does this happen every time? yes... Other information: I wrote a workaround for me and my friends (using bootmisc.sh)... but this is not enough.
NetworkManager itself does touch /etc/hosts. Ubuntu may be patching NetworkManager to do this.
"NetworkManager itself does touch /etc/hosts" does NOT touch...? the two sentences are in conflict... d
Yeah, sorry; upstream NM does NOT touch /etc/hosts.
Ok, I'll contact ubuntu devteam, it's quite a big problem for us... let them know ;-) thanks d
