Description davide 2008-02-05 17:42:06 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Network Manager rewrites /etc/hosts without the name of your pc, so that you'll experience a lower response in doing everything...

Steps to reproduce:
1. just changing network some times (I found this problme on yhe current gutsy NM version and in "lots" of pcs)

Actual results:
/etc/hosts is rewritten without the name of my pc

Expected results:
/etc/hosts unchanged

Does this happen every time?
yes...

Other information:
I wrote a workaround for me and my friends (using bootmisc.sh)... but this is not enough.
Comment 1 Dan Williams 2008-02-05 19:06:36 UTC
NetworkManager itself does touch /etc/hosts. Ubuntu may be patching NetworkManager to do this.
Comment 2 davide 2008-02-06 08:58:34 UTC
"NetworkManager itself does touch /etc/hosts"

does NOT touch...?
the two sentences are in conflict...

Comment 3 Dan Williams 2008-02-06 14:36:00 UTC
Yeah, sorry; upstream NM does NOT touch /etc/hosts.
Comment 4 davide 2008-02-06 17:32:10 UTC
Ok, I'll contact ubuntu devteam, it's quite a big problem for us...
let them know ;-)
thanks
