Description casey 2008-02-03 20:30:48 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Unicode character in Music subfolder name causes Couldn't access in Import Errors

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Character Map
2. Scroll just past z to copy the underlined a
3. Create a directory in the Music folder named with the non ASCII underlined a
4. Put one or more sound files in the newly named folder
5. Start Rhythmbox. Scanning the Music folder takes several seconds for me but I have few files there.

Actual results:
Import Errors appears under Library to the left with an error for each sound file in the offending folder.

Expected results:
Sound files appear in Music with no error.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
Originally reproduced by putting my Podcasts folder into the Music folder to work around the podcast http://mk2systems.com/memekast/?feed=rss2 not being treated as music.

Works fine for me.

What locale are you using? What output do you get if you run 'locale' in a terminal?
Comment 2 casey 2008-02-03 23:00:54 UTC

Please run 'rhythmbox -d --rhythmdb-file=/tmp/db.xml --playlists-file=/tmp/pl.xml 2>/tmp/log', cause one of these import errors, and then attach the resulting /tmp/log file to this bug.

Debug log

Generated with rhythmbox -d --rhythmdb-file=/tmp/db.xml --playlists-file=/tmp/pl.xml 2> rhythmlog

This can be repeated with a Music folder emptied of all but the error generating file if required.

The line (09:39:58) [0x886b788] [rhythmdb_monitor_uri_path] rhythmdb-monitor.c:318: monitoring: /home/casey/Music/%C2%AA/ refers to the directory /home/casey/Music/ª which contains one file, /home/casey/Music/ª/test.mp3
