GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 511179
no sound on HP Omnibook 6000
Last modified: 2008-01-25 09:46:18 UTC
I loaded Open Suse 10.3 on a HP Omnibook laptop, everything seems to work except for the sound, the sound icon on the system tray has a Red X. When I go to the SOund properties and hit "test" I get the message audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Internal GStreamer error: state change failed. Please file a bug at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=GStreamer. I tried loaing the alsa-firmware as another bug report suggests
GStreamer shows you a bad error message instead of the 'real' error message, which is probably either a permissions issue, or that the sound device you're trying doesn't exist or is currently in use by another application. It's most likely to be a configuration issue though at the end of the day, so best to play with different settings in System => Preferences => Sound to find the right output method for opensuse and/or install esd/pulseaudio. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version. You may want to check for a software upgrade. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 471364 ***
