GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 509035
[Win32] printing broken
Last modified: 2008-01-13 01:44:14 UTC
The printing function seems to be completely broken. Where do I start? I'm using XP with all updates. Printer is HP Color Laserjet 2605. *Printing and screen appearance are not the same. In some cases, content which fits well in the cells on screen is too long for the cells in print. I had to shrink the font considerably for it to fit. *Tried printing landscape with the text turned 90 degrees. Two pages came out, both blank. (It was a 1-page document.) * Tried printing to the Postscript driver rather than the PCL driver, but only the top third or so of each line of text printed. * Printing to the built-in PDF driver resulted in absolutely nothing. * Printing to PDF with the PDF995 program gave exactly the same results as printing to the PCL driver. I was only able to print by saving the file as an Excel file, then opening it in OpenOffice.
Yes, it's pretty much broken. 1.8.0 (no win32 build yet) uses a different printing engine, but the result is pretty much the same: it doesn't work. We are trying to poke the responsible library people (gtk, cairo, ...) to fix issues as we identify them.
I am marking this as a duplicate of 444942 although it realy isn't. As Morten said, the printing has been rewritten for 1.8 so there will be no fixes for your version 1.6. Unfortunately it doesn't work right in 1.8 for MS Windows either. And that is bug 444942. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 444942 ***
