GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 508727
Gnucash takes a long time to start / Freezes on startup
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:59:06 UTC
Please describe the problem: When I first started Gnucash, it looked as though it froze on startup with the term gnucash/app-utils appearing on the splash screen. It appears to be frozen at this stage (tempting you to kill the process). After a bit though (5 - 10minutes) the program continues normally. Only workaround I know of is simply to wait it out. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start GnuCash 2. 3. Actual results: Splash screen appears along with the tip of the day. The program stops executing for 5 - 10 minutes. Expected results: I would expect program to start immediately. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: It seems very similar to what is mentioned on the http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Windows#Windows_XP_Home_Edition_Problems webpage. The author was encouraged to submit a bug, but I couldnt find it here though... I am also running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (not the same software as the original author).
What happens if you * run a windows session without having started gnucash yet (so that it would hang) * start > run... > cmd.exe * cd $PREFIX\bin ($PREFIX might be C:\Program Files\GnuCash) * gconftool-2.exe --spawn (how long does it take until the prompt is printed? is gconfd-2.exe running in the task manager?) * gconftool-2 --ping * echo %errorlevel% (is it 0 or 2?) Do you run other Gconf or GTK+ based programs? Does running 'gconftool-2.exe --shutdown' before starting GnuCash change anything? Does it make GnuCash hang after it has started successfully once (assuming the second startup is snappy normally)?

About one second > is gconfd-2.exe running in the task manager?) No > * gconftool-2 --ping > * echo %errorlevel% (is it 0 or 2?) 0 > Do you run other Gconf or GTK+ based programs? No Does running 'gconftool-2.exe > --shutdown' before starting GnuCash change anything? Does it make GnuCash hang > after it has started successfully once (assuming the second startup is snappy > normally)? Still hangs exactly the same as it was
