GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 507117
Difficult to register invoices
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:58:21 UTC
I'd like to use GnuCash for handling my invoices, but there's an issue that stops me: the complex way of register an invoice (or many at once). I'd usually need to register hundreds at once and that is not possible (in reasonable time) using the menus and dialogs. In current version you have to do this: 1. Menu: Business > Customer > New Invoice ... 2. Select the customer by clicking select, enter a part of the name, click search, select in the results list, press select button (far to complicated) 3. Click OK (an invoice specification tab is displayed) 4. Enter the details 5. Click save 6. Close the specification tab 7. Repeat from step #1 for every invoice A better solution: 1. Menu: Invoices > Register invoices... (invoice spec tab is displayed) 2. Select customer by entering Customer ID (or by using the search dialog) 3. Enter the details 4. Click button "save and register another invoice" ( keyboard shortcut ) 5. Repeat from step #2 for every invoice The biggest benefity would be to register invoices using keyboard only. Clicking in menus and using the complex (but powerful) search dialog at _every_ invoice is simply not effective
Totally agree. This area needs a bit of work. Dont forget you also need to post the invoice after entering it. There are far too many times dates have to be entered for one invoice which is plainly annoying. In the New Invoice dialog there is a "Date Opened" field. What on earth is this? No one cares when you open an invoice. It should be "Invoice Date" Bill tab: Even more dates. I could understand the invoice is an itemised list but it should autofill to the invoice date. Post Invoice: "Date posted": This is definitely not required as the Post Date should be internally recorded. The date in GL should always be the Invoice Date.
> A better solution: > 1. Menu: Invoices > Register invoices... (invoice spec tab is displayed) > 2. Select customer by entering Customer ID (or by using the search dialog) or by giving a roll-down list of all the customers we have added in Business> Customers> New Customers. and also when we start typing the name of the customer their the list should auto search. just as in Google Search. the relevant result starts to show in the drop-down list as we start typing
