Description Zack Weinberg 2007-12-25 05:21:58 UTC
It would be really nice if evince would notice when another process has modified a file it is displaying, and redisplay the file (staying at the same position within the file, assuming that page still exists)

evince's lack of this feature is literally the only reason I haven't switched to exclusive use of pdflatex. I still use DVI output and xdvi during composition, because xdvi has this feature, which means I don't have to remember to redisplay the file after making changes. I *want* to switch to pdflatex altogether because I have to use it to generate final rendered manuscripts to send people (everyone knows what PDF is; also you can't embed images in a DVI file) and it would be more convenient to use only one thing. (Also pdflatex doesn't understand EPS images and latex doesn't understand PDF images, grmph.)
