Ability to reorder windows in Window List applet

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: <email removed> To: submit@bugs.gnome.org Date: Tue, 18 Dec 2007 23:44:31 +1100 (EST) Subject: Ability to reorder windows in Window List applet Distribution: Ubuntu 6.06 (dapper) Package: gnome-panel Severity: enhancement Version: GNOME2.14.1 unspecified Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu Synopsis: Ability to reorder windows in Window List applet Bugzilla-Product: gnome-panel Bugzilla-Component: Window List Applet Bugzilla-Version: unspecified Description: This is a feature request/suggestion. The feature is being able to arbitrarily change the ordering of buttons as they appear in the Window List applet, where each button represents an open window/application. At the moment, the ordering of buttons is chronological ie. if I start thunderbird then nautilus, the buttons are arranged in the order thunderbird -> nautilus. What I would like is the ability to reorder that to nautilus -> thunderbird or how ever I like. The reason for this is that I always start my X session by loading applications in a specific order such as thunderbird, nautilus, gvim, terminal, firefox (2 windows), open office. I find this helps my productivity by increasing my window switching accuracy and speed ie. my email client is always the first window, my terminal is always the 4 window etc. Occasionally, I accidentally close a application, or it crashes on me, and then my custom ordering is stuffed up. Believe me, I actually then go back and close everything and restart again so I have my preferred order. If it was possible to reorder the buttons in the Window List applet, then I don't have to do this. Another benefit of this feature is being able to keep the logical positioning of buttons the same as the windows they represent. For example, if window A appears on the "left" of window B on your desktop, you can reorder the buttons so the button for A is on the left of the button for B. I think it will improve ease of use if we could do this. Thank you for listening.
I am using GNOME 2.20 and I can reorder my taskbar.
